Our History
Karamoja Girl Education Initiative (KAGEI) is a community-rooted, non-profit organization founded in October 2018 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) and formally registered in December 2023 as a Company Limited by Guarantee in Uganda. KAGEI operates in Kaabong District, Karamoja Sub-region, with a focus on improving access to education, skills development, and empowerment opportunities for girls and vulnerable youth.
KAGEI exists to advance equitable access to quality education and vocational skills for girls and vulnerable youth in Karamoja by removing barriers to learning and strengthening community support systems. This enables them to gain knowledge, skills, and opportunities for self-reliance, dignity, and meaningful participation in their communities.
The organization primarily serves girls and vulnerable youth from underserved households facing poverty, school dropout, early marriage, and limited access to education and livelihoods opportunities.
